A little insider biology

Within the anus lie strong muscles loaded with nerve endings, the two main muscles comprising the sphincter which has the ability to expand and contract as necessary ( I won’t go into the obvious reasons why). The perianal nerves lie in close proximity to our sexual organs and our anus and are responsible for the more localised, genital feeling of pleasure. As a bonus for men, the sphincter muscles are connected to the prostate which is the size of a walnut and when stimulated is a huge source of additional sexual pleasure. This should be done several hours before you arrive for your appointment to ensure you’re feeling relaxed and confident that everything has passed through. A mere shower or bath is not going to cut it, I’m afraid. There are many resources online to educate and guide you as to the options, which I’ll describe briefly here.

The most simple method requires the purchase of an inexpensive douching bulb with a plastic or silicone nozzle (available from sex shops or online) for administering progressive doses of clean water to flush you out. Those new to douching should go slow. The best position is lying on your back on a towel with the soles of your feet planted on the floor, knees up. Lube up the tip of your enema with a body-safe lubricant such as a silicone-based lube and gradually guide the nozzle into your anus. Gently squeeze the bulb as you slowly fill your rectum with water. More extensive cleaning regimens exist using a hot water bottle system or a stainless steel shower enema kit, which do require more intake of water, but whichever the method, at the point of maximum fullness (practice teaches this point), be prepared to hold still and wait for as long as possible – at least 10 minutes, before allowing yourself to expel the contents. As your skill with self-enemas develops, your douching regimen will probably change as you learn different cleaning methods.

Your anal adventure begins

And so we come to the remainder of my 3 P’s: Patience and Practice. Let’s say you’re a complete novice.
